posted on June 15th, 2008 by Dean
Hershey, PA - The only thing hotter than the temperature in Hershey, were the performance of the Pennsylvania players, most notibly Easton’s Jarred Holley, Easton’s career interceptions leader with 21 and a Pittsburgh recruit, had 2 interceptions Saturday night in helping Pennsylvania beat Ohio 31-16, in front of a crowd close to 7,000. It was Pennsylvania’s third straight win over Ohio in the 51st Annual Classic.
Holley blanketed Ohio and Cincinnatti-bound D.J. Woods all night except for one play in the 2nd quarter, a 55-yard pass. Holley, along with Defensive Ends Adrian Robinson and Mark Wedderburn help contain the Buckeye State team most of the evening. In fact, Ohio was shut out the entire first half. Robinson, a Harrisburg-product, had 3 sacks and a blocked punt that led to his team’s 5 yard touchdown run in the 2nd quarter. Robinson, a Temple recruit, earned the Pennsylvania Squad’s MVP honors. Wedderburn, from Cardinal O’Hara, is heading to Happy Valley in the fall.
Parkland’s John Laub, a Richmond recuit, rotated the quarterback position with Pittsburgh Central Catholic’s Tino Sunseri, a Pittsburgh recruit, who threw 3 touchdowns of 10, 5, and 79 yards. Parkland’s Jim Morgans, the head coach of the Pennsylvania squad, is now 4-1 all-time at Hersheypark Stadium. Morgan’s last visit to Hersheypark Stadium, was a 21-0 shutout by Pittsburgh Central Catholic, in the 2007 PIAA Class 4A State Championships in December.
Blue Mountain’s Matt Stankiewitch, a Penn State recruit, was the team’s center, helping controlling the line of scrimmage all night.
Hazleton’s Nate Eachus, a Colgate recruit and a very familair name to District 11 fans, lead Pennsylvania with 10 tackles in the game. Wideouts Johathan Baldwin, from Alliquippa High School and Cameron Sadler, from Gateway High School, scored 3 of the 4 touchdowns for PA squad. Both are Pittsburgh recruits. Mike Jones, from Bishop Devitt and Syracuse-bound, scored the other touchdown for Pennsylvania, a 5-yard run.
