Whitehall (1-1) at Liberty (2-0)

Liberty too much for Whitehall

After an overtime against Northampton last week, Whitehall traveled to Liberty High School to take on the defending District 11 champion Liberty Hurricanes. Whitehall gave Liberty a Liberty a good challenge throughout the first half. Liberty was only up 7-0, thanks to a Francisco Serrano 8 yard fumble recovery to start the game. The team traded series throughout the first half, with Liberty winning 7-0 going into halftime.

Liberty's Junior tailback Ahkeem Smith starting off the scoring in the second half, with a 5 yard touchdown run. Then, about 3 minutes later in the game, Northwestern-bound quarterback Dan Persa, who rushed for 105 yards on the day, scored on a 54 yard touchdown run, with 3:16 left in the third stanza. Smith, not to be outdone, rushed for 126 yards and his second touchdown; a 9 yard touchdown run with 34 seconds left in the quarter. Smith's touchdown was setup by an Oscar Rivera 61 yard kickoff return.

Liberty ended with 19 first downs compared to Whitehall's 6. Liberty also rushed for 298 yards compared to Whitehall's 46. The Zephyrs were lead by Matthew Hamscher, who rushed for 45 yards. Jacob Millen completed 3 passes for 40 yards.

Liberty (3-0) travels to Emmaus (1-2), while Whitehall hosts unbeaten Easton (3-0), also on Friday night.
