Parkland Steamrolls Bethlehem Catholic, to go  4-0

 

Two unbeaten Lehigh Valley Conference teams met at Bethlehem School District Stadium, both were looking to prove their unbeaten records. The Trojans came out on top. Parkland scored on its first four possessions of the game, all but one was a touchdown pass by senior signal-caller Marc Quilling. Quilling, who threw for 142 yards, threw a 13 yard touchdown pass to fullback Philip Bortz with 5:22 left in the first quarter. By the end of the first quarter, the Trojan offense had 5 first downs.

 

It didn't take Parkland long to score in the 2nd quarter. The Trojans scored on an 8 play drive with 6 seconds into the second quarter. Quilling threw his second touchdown pass of the evening, a 21 yard pass to Tight End James Pagliaro. Parkland would score on its next possession, a 7 play drive with 5:39 left in half. This time, it wasn't a Quilling pass. It was a Jaren Elder 1 yard touchdown run. Elder had 38 receiving yards on the night. On the Hawks, second possession of the second quarter, Ben Eichman  was knocked out of the game, replaced by Bryan Morris. Morris completed 7 passes for 79 yards.

 

The Trojans weren't done scoring in the first half. On their next possession, with 34 seconds left to go until halftime. An eight play drive, with Quilling spotting Tristan McCants for a 17 yard touchdown pass. Parkland's first play of the 2nd half, was an interception by Golden Hawk linebacker Ziad Haddad. For the Hawks, it was 4 plays and out.

 

Parkland took advantage of the Bethlehem Catholic punt, by starting off at the Hawk 48 yard line. It took the Trojans 2 plays to score on this possession. With 6:41 left in the third quarter, Quilling hooked up with Owen Thomas. A 48 yard touchdown pass made it 35-0, with the mercy rule now in affect. Parkland would punt and turn the ball over on downs, on its next two possessions to end the game.

 

Parkland (4-0) travels to Northampton (3-1) next Friday, while Bethlehem Catholic (3-1) travels to Emmaus (1-3), also on Friday.
